PHIWUG Migrated to Office 365!

Office 365 is now open for registration here in the Philippines and you heard it, PHIWUG Migrated everything! I will blog on how it was done and how my company is doing it for ourselves also then for other customers that are now migrating to awesomeness, but for now lets talk about the “Why” question first.

Some history: the Philippine Windows Users Group has its own domain and website ( before and it is running on some shared-hosting facility locally here. It is there for quite a few reasons but for the most it is it is really cheap there. We used to have emails there and ftp publishing for pages and after some changes, we did not had any control over there. Not to mention the email system is… lets leave that behind and because it is a low-end hosting service, the response time is relatively are slow – reaaaaaaally slow.

Come Office 365 to the rescue!

So what is Office 365? Its basically SharePoint (Internal and Public Site) + Office 2013 + Office  WebApps + Exchange + Lync.

Office 365 comes with SharePoint 2013 that can be used for your personal page, internal team site and external website.

Personal page:

Team Site:

Public Website: From now on, we are using SharePoint as our main web site.

Office and Office Web Apps: From now on we will be running office in on desktop or in the browser.

I really cannot see the difference, except for this one is running in my IE.

Exchange Emails: I really like how exchange has this autodiscover service. Even works on mobile devices, like my Dell Venue pro that runs Windows Phone 7.8.

I really like being on exchange, they make this little things really easy. Also the compliance management and mail protections!

No spam, malware and a filter..

No Client? No problem, use OWA or Outlook Web Access:

And there there is Lync!

So there, we migrated and all then we have new tools with stuffs that we will need..

Hey! Everybody left! Wait up!

Let me just finish this post by saying, what are you doing now get yourself a 1 month trial of office 365 and see how it is really to set up this baby. Oh by the way, the mandatory:

“Powered by Office 365!”

Later folks!
